Boatswains Locker began in 1939 as one of the original boatyards in Newport Beach, California but over time evolved into a wholesale marine engine distribution and service business, serving customers throughout Western North America, Hawaii, and Mexico. In 1986 the ownership changed with the sale of the shipyard and we moved the Company to its current location in Costa Mesa, California. Since then our emphasis has been on marine propulsion, generators, and related systems. Our traditional base had been recreational pleasure craft but our strategy expanded to encompass commercial vessels as well. Ownership is shared by the two principal operators: Dan Gribble, CEO, who is responsible for strategy and finance, and Rob Apted, President, who is in charge of all day-to-day operations. With an average company tenure of over 16 years, we have a seasoned staff of marine industry professionals who provide knowledge and experience you can trust.
From our hands-on boatyard beginnings, we learned about the need for prompt and qualified service, and about the value of providing our customers with a variety of related products. It has been our strategy to represent premier product lines that offer synergy both in terms of functionality as well as in terms of market segments served, while at the same time providing exceptional technical support. Today Boatswain's Locker is the only multi-line marine propulsion distributor of its kind in this region and it is our unique approach to our product and service mix that allows us to be a "one stop shop" for our customers. This is one of the Company's primary strengths.
Our distribution and service territory is primarily the Southwest US, Hawaii, and Mexico, though some of our product coverage extends up into the Pacific Northwest as well. Our Sales Department is supported by large and diverse inventories of engines, generators, and parts, while our Service Department provides warranty support, technical training, repair, maintenance, and application and installation services for all the products we distribute.
